I am not suggesting that we live a life preoccupied with sorrow. I am saying that our refusal to welcome the sorrows that come to us, our inability to move through these experiences with true presence and conscious awareness, condemns us to a life shadowed by grief. Welcoming everything that comes to us is the challenge. This is the secret to being fully alive. I see this work as soul activism.
— Frances Weller, The Wild Edge of Sorrow

When your soul doesn't have the words or know what to do right now, but it is asking you to pay attention, reflect, and remember the deep suffering in and of the world, take time to get quiet, and sit with others in solidarity.

SoulPlay Solidarity Sits are occasional, 20 minute online gatherings where people can join with others in silence for remembrance and reflection. This contemplative gathering is not a passive response to the world’s atrocities, but an important element of one’s activism.

We must slow down to wake up. We must wake up to love well.

These solidarity sits do not replace the important active response each of us is being invited to take either. Please take time to tune into your heart, mind, body, and spirit, and respond to Love’s invitation to act in meaningful and tangible ways.

DATE: Sunday, February 27, 7:00pm EST - 7:20pm EST

FOCUS: Gathering in solidarity to remember and reflect on the current events in Ukraine, the people affected by this war, and our role as global citizens.

Zoom Link:

**You will be muted upon entering, and please remain muted for the duration of the sit. Attend with your screen-share on or off (whichever you feel comfortable with). This zoom meeting will NOT be recorded.

The solidarity sit will include a brief introduction, a short reading, and a time of silence.

Bring your concern, your frustration, helplessness, tears, and hope. Everyone is welcome.

The timing and topics of Solidarity Sits are tricky. So many communities and issues should be elevated on a daily and weekly basis, and many don’t get news coverage and our attention. Any formal invitation to gather online with others like this could never reflect the lived suffering of our world. These contemplative gatherings will pop up occasionally, but also semi-regularly in order for us to cultivate a practice of solidarity with one another, whether there is news coverage of a certain story or not.

Please consider generating your own regular solidarity practice to remember and reflect on vulnerable communities, the climate crisis, systemic inequity, wars, violence, and abuse experienced by people around the world, and the role you play. The daily headlines are our invitation.

Embrace your grief, for there your soul will grow.
— Carl Jung

About SoulPlay

SoulPlay offers creative experiences, curated resources, and personal support to help individuals and groups dig deeper, listen well, and journey towards loving themselves, others, God, and our world, well.

Through retreats, workshops/events, pilgrimage, spiritual direction/coaching, and yoga, this young organization is nimble, dynamic, and responsive to the emerging needs unfolding around us.

Think of SoulPlay as an “outfitter for the spiritual life” - companioning people on the adventure and exploration of the inner life, and providing opportunities, tools & tips, and helpful guidance along the way.

What do you need to slow down? What do you need to wake up and love well?

These questions require a posture of curiosity and courage, and transformation is found in both the asking and the unfolding answers that arise as one gives attention to their inner life.

Knowing how the power of inner transformation impacts people's desire and ability to live fully into the values of love, inclusivity, kindness, and generosity, SoulPlay experiences are providing the safe, contemplative space, and community, to slow down and wake up to Spirit, Source, and Soul.

Christa Hesselink founded SoulPlay.ca in early 2019 after over two decades of working in education, non-profit and ministry contexts.
